T.C.A. #10
Douglas
& I met two years ago via commenting on an Autism Article that had interested us both. (I’d been working with Autistic Kids, he is a teacher). We then nattered away on multiple subjects, thinking we might collaborate on something. We’d forward each other items of mutual interest, in particular anything that might help community growth. The result is - This Creative Adventure. Working with
had provided the direction & initial inspiration, to which Douglas brought constant personal support, prompts, suggestions. Such inputs have helped me to focus better; without his sagacious gentle nudging, C.T.A.’s solid growth would have been slower. I thank him for being here for me.But what about Douglas’ own stack ?
which he shares with Lynette to present us with Dystopian Otherworlds. It’s a seriously popular genre, wandering betwixt Fantasy & Prophesy, giving glimpses of Planet Earth’s now so dangerous heading. Glimpses that scare and illuminate, yet with hope and with humour. Humerous Sci-Fi used to be considered a difficult writing challenge. Douglas is the Master. His stories are educational without being lessons or courses, he shows us how to write … by example - not suprising really, English language and literature being his subjects……. That’s an adventure in itself……Last March, breaking from his usual repertoire, he published an essay “A Defense of Critical Theory”. It’s so pertinent to the thinking processes of any author - I have just restacked it to Notes, Again. Then he published in March & May, a three-parter, entitled HKM963. Wow ! Sci-Fi with twists, laughter & a cliff hanger that gets you thirsty…. Douglas has a habit of slipping certain subtleties into his twists. It’s possible to be half a sentence further on before the impact hits,,,, Lovely…..
If when you find one, please do mention it to Douglas, or to me, Cheers !
On January 15th, you may like to read Douglas’ Interview, get to know this Talented Substacker a little better still…. In the meantime, watch out for his restacks on NOTES…..
NOW HERE’s a THOUGHT + JANUARY COMPETITION.
These Hallo pieces are my way of thanking generous Substack colleages for their kind support, And to give support to the next influx of Newbie writers. In January I’ll be announcing details of a writing competition as another form of support for Newbies…… With Prizes……
